"Lying"

Is it OK to lie about the price of something if someone cannot afford it? My daughter is going on a trip with a group of friends. One of the kids thought the price was $100 for the three days. It turns out that it is triple that amount. The other kids want to pay her way without her knowing the true price is nor that they're paying it. Should they?

The Sages teach that lying is permissible under certain conditions and, in the scenario that you describe, I think that it is not only allowed but actually a beautiful thing to do. I think that it reflects an incredible sensitivity on behalf of the others who do not want to let the person in question feel like a charity case and yet, they want her to come with them. Beautiful!
